Park Cinema Building
Boston, Massachusetts

Completed as part of the Boston Commercial Rehabilitation Program, renovations to this movie-house include the dividing of the house into two cinemas, the addition of a new floor of office space above the theaters, a new entry to the offices, and a new lobby designed for the theaters.  Facade improvements completed as a part of the project restored the original cinema entrance facade and completely refurbished the ground floor with new wood and glass storefronts designed to be more in keeping with the buildings' original appearance.  The new theater lobby is designed to accommodate the various functional requirements of ticket sales, concession stand, poster display, and theater offices within a structured framework that will provide a sequential path through the street-front building to the cinemas.  The new office entry at the rear of the property addresses the large scale of the movie-house loft building by puncturing its end wall with a large opening.  Within this opening, the exposed stair tower becomes a primary feature, further defining the general lobby and ground floor rental area entrances.  It is hoped that the rehabilitation of this building, which occupies a prominent position in the Fields Corner area, will encourage additional redevelopment in the Community.
