Designed for the City of Gardner and the Massachusetts
Department of Environmental Management by Thomas Mayo
Associates as the "centerpiece" of the newly refurbished
Dunn Pond Park, a component of the Gardner Heritage State Park system, the
Park Center Building contains approximately 3,000 square feet and is
organized around a two part building program. The first part of the program
is designed for public year-round use: a warming hut for ice skaters and
skiers in the winter; an assembly area, swimmers' changing facility, and
nature exhibit space for summer visitors. The second portion is devoted to
the Park Service, housing offices and a garage / maintenance area for park
vehicles and equipment. The overall design focus for
the Dunn Pond Park Center Building, as emphasized by the large deck and major
glass areas, as well as material selections, is the visual and functional
link between the building's public spaces and the lake-front with its
beautiful natural setting and views. |
